Extensive refurbishment and remodeling of an existing glassmaking factory – complete with basement level and large scale production furnaces. To provide a modern, multi-functional exhibition and theatre space, with adjoining teaching studios, back of house areas and craft based workshops. The scheme is jointly financed by the HLF and Arts Council, with a strong emphasis on retaining the existing structure and façade of the building and ensuring the M+E services are discreetly installed to accentuate the character of the building
Key features, include:
- Demand driven space heating systems to minimise energy use, coupled with thermal zoning of key areas for out-of-hours, multifunctional use
- “On demand” mechanical ventilation systems with highly efficient heat recovery
- High efficiency gas fired condensing boilers and variable flow control heating system
- Controlled natural ventilation to the Studio Theatre with summertime mechanical assist ventilation
- Mixed-mode ventilation to the basement studio workshops
- Enhanced Building Management System to maximise energy efficiency and use within building
- High efficiency lighting systems
- Specialist power and lighting systems for Main Exhibition Space and Studio Theatre controlled via a data network based dimming system
